my name is Laura. I’m 20 years old and currently a sophomore at UCLA. College is an adventure for everyone, and an even bigger one for me, as it started with me packing all I had and moving to the States, to another continent, country, city and place where I knew no one.
At the same time, I still consider myself a tennis player. No longer on the international junior tour and having rejected multiple D1 scholarships and instead choosing UCLA for academics, I am I am trying to figure out what my future in the sport I cannot live without looks like. I have been playing for 14 years out of which 8 competitively. Currently I am training on my own and I have the opportunity to play some international events in the upcoming months that could help me decide if I’ll try to devote myself to the sport at least for a while once I graduate.
Besides playing my sport, training and studying, I enjoy writing and hope to be able to put together a piece of writing that is publishable at one point in the future and hence my starting of a blog. It has been a long time since I wrote anything, as at one point thought that I had nothing worthwhile to say. I even considered deleting this blog and starting anew, but re-reading my old posts, I know I could never do it. This shows my growth in so many aspects and hopefully I can rebuild it.
Obviously sports are something I really am into, and not just tennis. I’ve been skiing since I was 2 years old, and got my instructor’s licence, but I love snowboarding as well.
Another main interest of mine is learning foreign languages. Besides my native tongue, I am fluent in English, German and French and currently studying Russian, though I feel like I am slowing forgetting all of them.
Though I’ll keep you updated it’s easier to get to know me by reading my blog, a place where I’m completely truthful and where it’s easier to organise and lay down my thoughts, dreams and struggles.
